Cruising down he beautiful Derwent River, you’ll leave civilisation behind as you drift into the D'Entrecasteaux Channel alongside Bruny Island. Your first stop ‘Get Shucked’ oyster farm, where you will harvest, then eat, your own fresh, clean oysters. Taste the difference! Next up your guide will dive for sea urchin or abalone, it doesn't come fresher than that! Along with lots of other seafood it is time for lunch and it would not be complete without fine wines to go with it! This meal will live on forever!
This amazing 7.5-hour culinary experience will have you salivating in anticipation before you even board your cruise vessel. Harvesting fresh seafood from a farm and the ocean, you and your fellow travellers will prepare and eat some of the most delicious culinary delights imaginable.
With a 9.30 am start to your tour (10am on Saturdays), you’ll hop aboard the comfortable cruise vessel at Hobart’s Pennicott Wilderness Journeys Booking Centre (located at Franklin Wharf, next to the Constitution Dock Lifting Bridge). The custom-built cruise vessels used for this tour are equipped with roomy enclosed cabins and luxurious leather seating, plus the small tour groups (maximum of ten guests) ensure that you’ll have an enjoyable and pampered experience, without feeling overcrowded.

Your first port of call will be the aptly named ‘Get Shucked’ oyster farm, where you will harvest, then eat, your own fresh, clean oysters. Taste the difference! Next, you’ll make a brief stop in one of Bruny Islands calm bays while your guide dives I to retrieve some fresh sea urchin or abalone for you to try. All of this activity is accompanied by a gorgeous scenic backdrop, pristine landscapes, fresh ocean air, secluded beaches and coves lapped by the cleanest water imaginable.
Next, it’s lunch time and time to reap the rewards of the morning’s harvesting. You’ll be given the option to help prepare a seafood feast of oysters, abalone and sea urchin, but also fresh rock lobster, mussels, sashimi, salmon and more. This will be combined with fresh, local breads, salads and gourmet cheeses. Then, it’s time to indulge in the heavenly flavours you’ve helped to create, all washed down with a delicious beverage of your choice from a range of Tasmanian wines, boutique beers, ciders or juices. At the end of your delicious journey, you’ll return to Franklin Wharf at around 5pm (5.30pm Saturdays), with a full belly and a new culinary addiction.
Throughout the day you will enjoy a range of local Tasmanian produce, including Wild Abalone, Rock Lobster, Oysters, Salmon, Sea Urchins and boutique Tasmanian beers, wines and ciders.
